My favorite time of the year, visiting the greenhouses. I love our independent greenhouses. Amish country is dotted with family owned sites - the cove and Sinking Valley both provide ample opportunity for browsing and choosing your garden treasures.
We have some nice local growers and commercial greenhouses, too. I enjoy Spring Farms in Martinsburg, Wagner's in Juniata, Piney Creek, Martin's Sinking Valley, Leidig's Williamsburg, Zazworsky's Glasgow, Shadow Box Ebensburg, Leighty's Newry, and A & M Duncansville as well as the Amish and Mennonite shops. These places are abundant and overflowing with quality plants, so much better than the big box stores. Their stock is poor, why purchase low quality plants when you can do so much better and support our local economy?
Glorious baskets and colorful bedding annuals fill the senses and inspire the gardeners heart:
Entire green spaces filled with herbs and vegetable bedding plants:
I've purchased a few flats today - planting soon - in hopes of another season of beauty!
